Metal diaphragms @ IMA, Paris

The AWI (Arab World Institute) was designed by French architect Jean Nouvel and was constructed from 1981 to 1987. The facades have the distinction of being composed of 240 photo-sensitive diaphragms (as in our beloved cameras)which are motor-controlled and act as a sophisticated brise soleil that automatically opens and closes to control the amount of light and heat entering the building from the sun.
